To the student body,
My fellow hard-working students of USM. We have on our hands a new year, a new semester and with that, new challenges. As we close off each semester and take on another, we see who have been able to rise above the challenges and take initiative to make the necessary self sacrifices to meet their goals. Amidst all the challenges presented, we have to adhere to the wise adage of the Serenity Prayer and seek to accept the things we cannot change; have the courage to change the things we can; and be wise enough to know the difference.
The main purpose of the association is to represent the student body’s concerns and seek solutions to enhance each student’s experience at the institution. So far the board has been doing a good job at listening to the students and attacking the relevant issues. They have been doing all they can to keep students informed and active with various events. These include "The End of Semester Party" which took place on December 15th, the University Clean up in Spring 2007, and Black History movie showing. The students have responded positively to the vibrancy of this new board and have shown increased interest and support for the activities. Promoting school-spirit has been at the top of the priority list for the S.G.A. Through means of various social, athletic and academic activities compounded by student benefits, U.S.M. has experienced a radical boost in school spirit. Now the students are begging for “what’s next?” Together we are able to achieve much more, so as the days, weeks, months, and even the years progress, I challenge myself and every USM Pelican (students and affiliates) to stand up and be seen and heard. It is for us to now unite in effort to get what we came here for, protect it for those to come and lastly, to leave our mark on U.S.M. and even the wider community. The S.G.A. is ready to take it to another level...Are you coming with us? Maria Richardson S.G.A President
